ROBOTIC THREAD CREATED BY MIT ENGINEERS TO TREAT STROKE INJURY

ROBOTIC THREAD CREATED BY MIT ENGINEERS

MIT engineers developed the magnetically steerable thread like robot which easily navigate and glide through blood vessels (even in small narrow ways). It is developed in order to treat the patients brain blockages and lesions. They tells in the upcoming years this technology can be put together with endovascular technologies and with the guidance of doctors the robot can be easily pass through the patients brain vessels to treat blockages caused by strokes.Xuanhe Zhao the associate professor of mechanical engineering and of civil in MIT tells if we could treat the blood vessel blockages in brain within 90 minutes with the use this technology, we can avoid the permanent brain damage. This robot has been coated with hydrogel(wire's core in the rubbery paste). The core of the magnetic thread has been made from the nickel titanium alloy which is flexible to pass through blood vessels and hydrogel gives its slippery.
To clear the blood cots in the brain, the doctors use the endovascular technique, which is a thin wire will be inserted into the patients body's legs and with the fluoroscope the wire will manually rotated into the brain vessels and insert drugs or clot retrieval devices to the damaged area. but this technique needs a very specialized surgeon and they have to endure the radiation exposure of fluoroscope. But the robot thread will helps to overcome this problem and with the use of large magnets the thread embedded with magnetic particles can be easily activated and pass through the blood vessels.
Stroke is the fifth leading dead caused disease which will be treated with this technology and avoid fatal deaths cause by blockages.
